The Mother Song (Wild Womxn)

by Mary Scholz

/

about

There are infinite ways to be a Womxn. It is imperative not only to find the way that rings true for you, but to let other Womxn follow their path, as well.

PLEASE NOTE: The usage of "x" in Womxn is meant as an inclusive term, for ALL female identifying individuals.
Recently, we've learned that this term has been co-opted by TERFS (trans exclusionary radical feminists), but that was NOT the intention behind naming the song, years ago. We believe in intersectional, inclusive feminism.

lyrics

Lyrics:

I’m just about the age that I picture my mother all the time
I guess I think it’s strange to be where she was but still inside my mind
And we both know time’s clicking, ticking, slipping by
Maybe that’s okay, and we only need the time this life provides

Well my life is at the stage where they tell you, you ought to know your way
I’m still finding mine every breath of every single stunning day
Don’t be scared of shifts or change, she’d always say
I am not afraid
I’m the womxn
I’m the womxn that you made

And we’re all here for a moment in this world
Then we’re all gone like the last
And we stand tall on the shoulders of the ones
Of the wild, wild womxn of the past

Here we are today
And we’ve come so far, but still so far to go
And so we raise our voice
To echo centuries of womxn we don’t know
And every breath we take and truth we choose to show
Helps to pave the way
With or without raising daughters of our own

Cause we’re all here for a moment in this world
Then we’re all gone like the last
And we stand tall on the shoulders of the ones
Of the wild, wild womxn of the past
And may we all be part of changes that will last

Maybe that’s a truth that I struggle with
when looking at my mom
She worked and raised three kids
I work to raise people’s spirits through song
And it’s okay if no one ever sings along
Just like it’s okay
If no one ever calls me Mom

Cause we’re all here for a moment in this world
Then we’re all gone like the last
And we stand tall on the shoulders of the ones
Of the wild, wild womxn of the past

And may we all be part of changes that will last
